Donor Privacy Policy
Live Free Business Alliance values the trust of every person and organization that supports its mission.
This Donor Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, retain, protect, and share information associated with charitable contributions. It also explains the choices donors may have regarding communications, recognition, and access to their information.
Our Commitment to Donors
Live Free Business Alliance is committed to handling donor information responsibly.
We use donor information for purposes reasonably connected with:
- Processing contributions
- Providing receipts
- Maintaining accurate financial records
- Managing recurring donations
- Communicating about a donation
- Acknowledging support when permission has been provided
- Sending organizational or fundraising updates when the donor has opted in
- Meeting legal, accounting, tax, fraud-prevention, and reporting obligations
We do not publicly identify donors without permission. We do not sell or rent donor contact information to unrelated organizations for their independent marketing purposes.
We limit access to donor information to people and service providers who need it for legitimate organizational responsibilities.
Scope of This Donor Privacy Policy
This policy applies to donor information collected by Live Free Business Alliance through:
- The Donate page and embedded donation forms
- Zeffy or another approved donation processor
- One-time and recurring donations
- Donation-related emails and donor acknowledgment forms
- Tribute-gift and matching-gift communications (when offered)
- Offline contributions (when an approved offline process exists)
- Communications about a completed or attempted donation
- Donor records maintained for financial and administrative purposes
This policy applies specifically to charitable giving. The Alliance’s broader website and program data practices are described in our Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
The information collected depends on how a donation is made and which options are enabled in the donation platform.

Donation amount, date, and frequency; Fund or campaign designation (when available); Donor comments; Anonymous-giving and public-recognition preferences; Recurring-gift status; and Transaction/receipt identifiers.

Preferences related to donation receipts, organizational updates, fundraising communications, public recognition, anonymous giving, email subscriptions, and contact method.

Payment-card or bank information should be entered directly into the approved donation processor’s secure system. Live Free Business Alliance does not receive or store full payment-card or bank-account details.
Information Collected Automatically
When a person visits the Donate page or interacts with an embedded donation form, the website and donation platform may automatically collect technical information such as: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and donation-form activity. The general Privacy Policy provides additional information about website cookies and analytics.
How We Collect Donor Information
We may collect donor information:
- Directly From Donors: When you complete a donation form, contact us about a gift, request a receipt, or update your preferences.
- From the Donation Processor: To confirm transactions, issue receipts, and manage recurring donations.
- From Businesses or Matching-Gift Programs: When matching gifts are offered through employers or corporate giving programs.

- Prevent fraud and misuse

Donation Processing
Live Free Business Alliance uses an approved third-party platform (such as Zeffy) to process online donations. The platform’s own privacy policy, terms, and payment practices also apply when a donor uses its services.
A donation form embedded on livefreebiz.org is operated by the third-party donation provider. Information entered into that form may be transmitted directly to the provider.
Optional Platform Contributions
The donation platform may invite donors to make a separate optional contribution to support the platform. Any optional platform contribution is separate from the charitable donation to Live Free Business Alliance.
Donor Receipts and Acknowledgments
After a donation, the donor may receive a confirmation or receipt from the approved donation platform. The formal donation receipt should be generated through the approved donation process. The website thank-you page is not a substitute for a financial receipt.
A donor may contact the Alliance if information appears incorrect, a duplicate donation occurred, or a receipt was not received.
Anonymous Donations
When the donation platform offers an anonymous-giving option, a donor may request not to be publicly identified. An anonymous preference generally means the donor’s name will not be used in public recognition. The Alliance still needs to retain identifying information for financial, legal, and fraud-prevention purposes.
Donor Recognition
Live Free Business Alliance does not publicly identify a donor without permission. Public recognition may include donor lists, annual reports, website acknowledgment, or social media recognition. We do not publicly disclose a donor’s contribution amount unless permission is granted or it is legally required.
Communications and Email Preferences
Administrative or transactional communications (confirmations, receipts, payment issues) are different from general promotional or fundraising emails. A donor is not automatically subscribed to general marketing communications solely because a donation was made.
Donors may unsubscribe from applicable promotional emails through the link included in the email or by contacting the Alliance.
Recurring Donations
When recurring giving is enabled, the approved donation processor maintains the information needed to process future contributions (amount, frequency, payment token). Donors should follow instructions in their confirmation to update or cancel recurring gifts.
Tribute and Matching Gifts
When tribute giving is offered, the Alliance may use tribute information to record the gift and notify a designated recipient. For matching gifts, information may be exchanged with the giving program administrator to confirm and process the match.
How We Share Donor Information
Donor information may be shared only when reasonably necessary for legitimate organizational purposes, such as with payment providers, financial/professional service providers (accountants, auditors), authorized personnel, or for legal and safety requirements.
Sale or Rental of Donor Information
Live Free Business Alliance does not sell or rent donor names, addresses, or donation histories to unrelated organizations for their independent marketing. Donor information is not provided as a sponsor or partner benefit.
Data Retention
Donor information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for donation administration and legitimate organizational, legal, accounting, tax, security, and reporting purposes.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect donor information. However, no online service or payment process can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Donor Rights and Choices
Donors may request to access, correct, or delete certain information, update recognition preferences, or unsubscribe from communications. To submit a request, please contact us at:
Donor Privacy Email: [Insert approved donor privacy email]
Donations and Sponsorships
A donation is charitable support and does not include sponsorship recognition. A sponsorship is a business arrangement that may include approved recognition or participation. Donor information is not treated as a sponsorship lead.
Children’s Information
The donation process is intended primarily for adults. The Alliance does not knowingly seek to collect payment information directly from children.
Third-Party Services
The Alliance may rely on third-party providers for donation processing, accounting, and email distribution. These providers process information under their own privacy policies.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Donor Privacy Policy to reflect changes in donation methods, service providers, or legal obligations. When the policy changes, the "Last Updated" date will be revised.
